Affiliates, Partners, and Memberships
Several organizations have offices at GSO:
NOAA's Office of Ocean Exploration which manages the activities of NOAA's dedicated ocean exploration vessel, the Okeanos Explorer, homeported at Quonset Point, RI;
the National Park Service's North Atlantic Coast Cooperative Ecosystems Unit;
the Nature Conservancy Global Marine Initiative;
the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program;
the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS);
the Rhode Island Nuclear Science Center which has a small 2-megawatt research reactor on campus;
Atlantic Ecology Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; and
Narragansett Laboratory of NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center.
Nearby facilities include the Naval Undersea Warfare Center and the Naval War College in Newport, RI, and a number of science and environmental consulting firms.
GSO is a member of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, the Partnership for Observation of Global Oceans, the Northeast Regional Association of Coastal Ocean Observing Systems, and UNAVCO, an organization facilitating geoscience research and education using geodesy.
