Areas of Specialization

Research

My research focuses on the fisheries ecosystem dynamics of Rhode Island's coastal waters. I study the spatial distributions of marine fishes and invertebrates, how they vary on different scales, within different habitats and in different environmental conditions. I also look at how these variations affect community structure, trophic interactions and fisheries. This research utilizes geological, ecological and hydrographic techniques to understand the ecosystem functions of a data-poor region. The final goal of my research is to guide the location of offshore development so as to preserve the ecological and economic value of the Rhode Island's coastal.
