Current Cruise Data for RV Endeavor
Aboard ship, navigation and environmental data are collected hourly and normally transferred to shore four times daily during scheduled email transmissions. They are then processed and displayed on this web page. The process is automatic from start to finish. The data are collected, bundled into an email, sent to shore, and these charts and this web page are made without human intervention. All times are GMT.
Over-the-Side Equipment
Winches and Wire Rope
All overboard handling equipment is optimized for working over the starboard side and stern. Aft deck bulwarks are bolted in place and sections can be removed to facilitate launching/recovering and stowage of equipment. PIs planning to bring their overboarding equipment must be familiar with and follow the UNOLS Rope and Cable Safe Working Load Standards outlined in Appendix A of the UNOLS Research Vessel Safety Standards.
RI Endeavor Program
Since 2005, the State's annual budget has allocated $500,000 for support of operations of the research vessel Endeavor, which has been operated and managed by URI's Graduate School of Oceanography for over 30 years. The GSO Dean administers the funds via the "Rhode Island Endeavor Program" (RIEP), described elsewhere on this website. The purpose of RIEP is to provide Rhode Islanders with direct access to the scientific research and educational capabilities of an ocean-going research vessel.
