Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
Mooring has 1-year endurance due to battery life. It was first deployed in mid
October 2000, turned around mid-October 2001, and needs to be turned around
mid-October each year +/- 2 weeks leeway. 7 days science time are requested (6
days are neeeds working at 20S, 85W; 1 day is needed along the way to that site
for testing). Additional time is needed for transit; the transit the time time
depends on which port s are used and crusing speed. Have worked in and out of
Arica, Chile. As time permits sampling will be done on inbound leg into Arica,
Chile along 20S in collaboration with Chilean Navy hydrographic office (SHOA)
and collaegues at the Univ. of Concepcion, Chile. Occupying this line supports
Chilean research, builds collaboration, and helps with asking the Chilean Navy
to keep an eye on our mooring. Other ports canbe used for start. Of concern
are the lading and work facilities in the ports. 2 9,000 lb anchors, the
mooring winch, a 20' van loaded with glass balls and mooring line, the buoy
hull must be loaded and unloaded, requiring good shore cranes. Also needed is
aplace to work in port for about a week setting buoy up before start of cruise.
NOTE: ASTERISK ON TOTAL SHIP DAYS DENOTES MORE DAYS NEEDED IF PORTS OTHER THAN
ARICA USED. ARICA to ARICA CRUISE COULD BE DONE IN 14 DAYS. STARTING/ENDING
USING OTHER PORTS REQUIRES MORE DAYS. 16 DAYS/YR REQUESTED AGAINST ARICA NOT
BEING USED FOR START AND END. AS THIS IS NOAA FUNDED, SCHEDULING REQUIRES
COLLABORATION WITH NOAA SHIP SCHEDULING (NOW FRED ROSSMANN,
FREDERICK.W.ROSSMANN@NOAA.GOV).

Please explain:
---------------
Chilean observors, from SHOA, Chilean Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic
Office and also Chilean scientists, probably from the Univ. of Cocncepcion,
Chile. If cruise originates in other country, foreign observors as required.

Other Special Equipment; Equipment Requiring Special Handling, Storage or
Installation; Comments:
-----------------------
Need mooring winch for deployment; can bring one from WHOI, but would be good
to have spare. Will use air tuggers and capstan during deployment/recovery off
mooring. Storgage van for glass balls. Will bring SeaBird CTD. Need IMET
system
freshly calibrated; need real time display (graphic) of shipboard met obs.
Work
boat maybe required for mooring deployment/recovery.
