Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
The objectives of this proposal are to study the biogeochemical response of the
Sargasso Sea ecosystem to the passage of weather systems that occur every 7-10
days during the winter period near Bermuda. To achieve this we will have a
2-2.5 day survey to characterize the region around our central process station,
~25 days at our central process station and then repeat the 2-2.5day survey.
M. Lomas and Jeff Krause (the graduate student affiliated with this project)
have teaching commitments from mid March onward so therefore starting the
research cruise in mid February is ideal. As far as weather constraints, there
are none as it is the short term (days) response of the ecosystem to storm
passage that we are most interested in studying and therefore need to be out
during the passage of these storm fronts.
