----------------------------------
Special equipment: possible small boat operations, Kilo Moana's rigid
inflatable to attach hauling line to retrieve untethered 40kg floats.
We would be deploying Jim Bishop's insitu pumps on his own winch system.
We would have 3 twenty(?) foot vans on board. One from WHOI, Bishops and a
UNOLS C-14 van.
The first two cruises mentioned above would be at HOTS, in and out of Honolulu,
the third cruise would be the one up to 47N 160E, Honolulu to Mutsu, Japan.
Cruises are planned around early summer conditions.

Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
The 2nd and 3rd cruises are planned around early summer conditions at HOTS and
47N 160E
The purpose of the first cruise(7 days) is for testing of equipment and ship
compatibility and we would like five to six months between that and the first
twenty-one day cruise in May/June 2004.
All of these cruises require loading and unloading of vans and special Jim
Bishop winch systems so ample port time should be scheduled.
Cruise 1 = in/out Hawaii to HOT site, 7 days total, winter 2003/04
Cruise 2 = in/out Hawaii to HOT site, 21 days total, early summer 2004
Cruise 3 = to NW Pacific (47N 160E), 21 days on site, est. 35 days total
(w/estimated 11 day steaming & 1 weather day & 2 days sampling on transit),
early summer 2005; ideal schedule is to depart from Hawaii, work at site,
return to Mutsu Japan or other Japanese port
Shipment of gear to/from Hawaii, includes 20' container van; radioisotopes;
Large Volume pump/winch system; other equipment from US and international
colleagues.
Most gear to remain in Hawaii between cruises if this can be arranged
