Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
New Horizon will be one of 7 or 8 research vessels operating in the same
general area during this sea trial. Of these, Sproul and Pt Sur will be most
closely coupled to New Horizon's schedule. New Horizon will launch and
subsequently/infrequently service several fixed systems and launch and recover
daily two Bluefin 21 AUVs. The operation tempo will be roughly 10-12 hours on,
14-12 off and involve considerable connection with researchers at MBARI to
which most of the critical information is flowing via a combination of acoustic
and RF methods. There is a possibility of having New Horizon tow or "dangle" a
sound device for emplanted sensors to listen for. New Horizon may serve as a
source - possibly using its thruster or screws. The use of New Horizon's RHIB
for some launch/recovery operations is requested - in fact is of critical
importance to the launch/recovery of the two Bluefin vehicles that will be
aboard.
