Other Special Equipment; Comments:
----------------------------------
R/V Sproul is adequate ship for us if sci crew is embarked/disembarked daily.
Radar and DGPS with accurate UTC time and track recording.
GPS attitude and heading sensors highly desirable when working with vertical
boom over the side.
Waypoints will be provided.
Own ship and nearby large ship (>50 ft LOA) tracks (within 1 nmi of deployed
equipment) should be recorded to 1-second and 10-meter accuracy if possible.
Transducer boom needed for survey of equipment positions. We provide
transducers.

Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
Mobilize 4-5 DEC at MARFAC. Begin operations on 7 Dec at 0001 with fathometer
survey of deployment area. At first light, deploy equipment and conduct special
runs off San Diego 7-8 DEC (24-hour ops). Evening of 7 Dec conduct survey with
our special transducers over the equipment. Resume daytime ops on 8 DEC with
possible evening ops until final survey is completed. All personnel will be on
board the entire time. Night ops require minimal ship's crew and scientific
crew. Conduct special runs at night and recover during daylight 20-21 DEC.
Demobilize 22 DEC at MARFAC. Dynamic positioning is desired if available, but
not required. Deployment of bottom line array requires slowest possible headway
into the weather, along a precise straight track. Recovery requires backing
along the deployment line in the same or reverse direction as deployment.
Project will provide special fairlead and drop slide to mount on the stern
under the A-frame, and a special constant-tension winch with its own diesel
hydraulic power unit. Project will provide interfaces to all special
equipment, preferably to standard bolt pattern, after consultation with ship's
crew. Operations on 6-7 DEC during daylight hours will involve up to 14
scientific crew. Nighttime ops will involve fewer people. Operations on 20-21
DEC will be similar. If sea state >3 on 6-7 DEC, deployment operations would
shift to the 20-21 DEC date, with recovery on or after 3-4 JAN 2006.
