Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
Flexible on ship scheduling. Would like to see work completed between November
01, 2007 and January 31, 2008. However, these dates are optimum dates and we
are definitely flexible in our ship scheduling in order to preferrably use the
RV Melville and take advantage of "ship dead time" and ONR funding assistance
as conveyed to our client (PACDIV Naval Facilities Engineering Command) by ONR.
Cruise dates from 1/01/08 to 4/30/08 will be considered.

SCUBA Diving? X No _ Yes -- Designate Lead Institution:
# Individual dives: # Divers on board:
A list of all divers and their certification information must be submitted
to the ship's marine superintendent.

--------------
10% buffered formalin, approximately 5 gallons needed, for initial fixing of
benthic samples. formalin neutralized with Neutralex and properly disposed.
benthic samples transferred to 70% ethanol solution. approximately 10 gallons
needed. no disposal required.

Other Special Equipment; Equipment Requiring Special Handling, Storage or
Installation; Comments:
-----------------------
Sediment samples to be collected with boxcore, double vanveen or multicore
device for sediment chemistry, benthic community assessment (macroinfauna and
meiofauna), potential laboratory based bioaccumulation study. CTD and Rosette
with Niskin bottles. Fish (beam) trawls (to be provided by principal
investigators). Two current meter moorings to be deployed (approximately 7,500
ft of line with 2,000 lbs anchor weight and 5 instruments spaced equally.
Current meter moorings to be retrieved at a later date with a vessel of
opportunity based in Guam. RV not required for retrieval. Fish traps set and
retrieved using acoustic releases. Refrigerated vans not a required component,
alternate methods of storage can be used if not vans not available.
