Are there special considerations of the science party or cruise scheduling?
Consider science time constraints; coordination of equipment shipping;
two-ship operations; weather windows; mooring turn-around; teaching schedules
and others that will affect scheduling decisions.
-------------------------------------------------
1, The activity being undertaken is very dependent upon calm weather (wind
speeds <10 knots). It is, therefore, essential to deploy during the time of
year that will maximise the opportunities for the research to take place.
2. Timeframe: Require 7 consecutive weeks of vessel availability, not including
transit from/to vessel homeport. Seven-week time period may occur any time from
6/1/08 through 8/31/08.
3. Require at least two (2) visual observer positions with total 360 deg arc
coverage (i.e., each position at least 180 deg arc coverage), using big eyes;
optimum location on flying bridge above pilot house.
4. We will need to be able to deploy and recover a 18' RHIB from the ship

Other Special Equipment; Equipment Requiring Special Handling, Storage or
Installation; Comments:
-----------------------
1. US-Navy supplied mid-frequency research source and van (30 ft x 40 ft; 24K
lb.; power requirements 208 VAC WIE (60 AMP service breaker); 480 VAC 3-phase
(60 AMP service breaker).
2. Winch for source(including 2,500 ft of cable): 10 ft x 10 ft; 12K lb. Power
requirements: 480 VAC 3-phase (60 AMP service breaker).
3. Industry-supplied single 120 cu in. airgun source; all airgun support
equipment will be supplied except for the ship A-frame used to deploy it. The
support equipment includes compressor, HP air bottles, firing unit with
energizer solenoid, air hose, and electric cables.
4. Two big eye binoculars will need to be installed; optimum location on flying
bridge above pilot house. Visual observer positions will need to cover a total
360 deg arc coverage (i.e., each position at least 180 deg arc coverage). need
to confirm no problems with observers working on roof of pilot house, e.g. no
hazard from radar etc.
