East Sound is a fjord along the coast of Orcas Island, in the San Juan Islands, Washington, in the southern part of the Strait of Georgia. This region has a long history of oceanographic research, which dates back to the early publications of the Puget Sound Biological Station (1920's).

East Sound is oriented northwest to southeast, and is about 12 km long, and 1 - 2.5 km wide. Over most of its extent, it is about 30 m deep, with a tidal range from 0.3 - 3.5 m. A sill extends from the western shore and runs about half-way across the mouth, restricting circulation with contiguous waters.
