1998 Field Design Quantification of the temporal and spatial scales over which Thin Layers exist required a nested sampling strategy. We used a combination of basin-scale transects to define the spatial extent of layers, and bottom-up profilers to provide unconfounded 4-dimensional data on layer distribution and intensity.
