D’Hondt’s recent graduate courses include Marine Stratigraphy and Biological Control of Ocean Chemistry (co-taught with Arthur Spivack and Rebecca Robinson). His recent undergraduate courses include Ocean Exploration (co-taught with Chris Roman and Robert Ballard), an honors course on Life in the Universe (co-taught with Spivack), and an honors course on Oceans, Atmospheres and Climate (co-taught with Spivack). The last course was coordinated with the Spring 2010 GSO Vetlesen Lecture Series on Global Environmental Change (led by D’Hondt, Spivack and Judith Swift).

D’Hondt co-led the the 2008 URI Honors Colloquium, People and Planet - Global Environmental Change, with Spivack and Swift. This colloquium included (1) an undergraduate course, (2) public lectures and events (each attended by 600-1000 people from throughout southern New England), (3) a professional development course for Rhode Island teachers, (4) sponsorship of book club readings and discussions throughout Rhode Island, (5) map exhibits at multiple locations throughout the state, (6) broadcasting of the lectures on public television, and (7) creation and internet posting of short videos. All of these efforts focused on human-caused environmental change. For more information about the colloquium, visit http://www.uri.edu/hc.
