A number of research laboratories can provide analytical services on a per sample basis or by arrangement.
CHN Analyses analyses of particles, sediments, and tissues are
done with a Carlo Erba EA1108 CHN analyzer. Sample preparation may be
arranged. The cost is typically $3-5 per sample. For further

Organic Analyses Organic analysis of petroleum compounds,
biomarkers, and envionmentalorganic contaminants are done with an
Agilent GC-MS for compound identification. The laboratory has complete
extraction and preparation facilities for water, tissue or
sediment/soil samples. For further information contact:

Nutrient Analyses for dissolved and particulate nutrients in
water may be arranged through the GSO Marine Ecosystems Research
Laboratory (MERL). Automated analysis of phosphate, nitrate, nitrite,
ammmonia, and silicate is available. For further information contact:

Radionuclide Geochemistry Laboratory is capable of low-level
detection of alpha, beta and gamma emitting radionuclides and radon.
Radionuclides typically analyzed include Th-234, Th-230, Th-228,
Th-232, Pb-210, Cs-137, Be-7, Ra-224, Ra-223, Ra-228, Ra-226 and
Rn-222. Sample preparation (water or sediment) may be arranged.

The GSO ICPMS Laboratory is available for geochemical and environmental trace element analyses. The laboratory includes clean rooms for preparation of solution-based samples. The mass-spectrometers are a Finnigan Element High-Resolution ICPMS, and a Thermo X-Series II Quadrapole ICPMS. Sample introduction apparatus include: standard and low-flow nebulizer/spray chambers; Desovating Nebulizer; Hydride Generator; and a New Wave UP-213 Laser Ablation System. The laboratory is open to University and outside users. For further information contact:
