| Smoothed (25-month running mean) standardized departures
from average monthly conditions for temperature (red line and left
axis) and for abundance of young stages of the planktonic copepod,
Calanus finmarchicus (green line and right axis) in the shelf
and slope waters between New York City and Bermuda. The departures
for the copepod abundance have been inverted to help reveal a suspected
inverse relationship between the two features. The average conditions
for the 1978 through 1997 period are shown by the zero line on the
y-axis. Figure by Julien Goulet,NMFS. |
