End of an Era

Members of the Narragansett Marine Laboratory staff and graduate students desire to take this opportunity to express thanks to the many colleagues and friends who have generously contributed much-needed publications for the replacement of our library, destroyed in the fire of 6 January 1959, and also in other ways that have been most helpful. The Office of Naval Research has been particularly generous in replacing lost gear and publications.

We are also most grateful to President Horn for his prompt action in providing temporary quarters and enlisting Board of Trustee support for a new laboratory. This has made possible continuation of both teaching and research programs with almost no interruption, and is paving the way for enlarged federally-supported research programs which will greatly enhance the Laboratory's service to the State.
