Graduate Statistics
In the 27 years that the University of Rhode Island has been granting graduate oceanography degrees, 244 have been awarded to 217 people. Over half of these graduates have settled in the Northeast. Eighty-five percent have remained in a marine-related field. The number of women in oceanography has increased from a lone student in the late 1960s to 27 percent of the current student enrollment.
These are some of the statistics which surfaced when Graduate School of Oceanography's administration compiled its first directory of graduates. The directory is the beginning of a series of projects designed to keep GSO graduates and other URI alumni aware of what events are taking place at the Narragansett Bay Campus.
