We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Margaret S. Leinen as Vice Provost for Marine Programs and Dean of the Graduate School of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island effective September 6, 1992.

Dr. Leinen will be responsible for administration of the Graduate School of Oceanography and oversight of the University-wide marine programs. As Dean of the Graduate School of Oceanography, she will lead the single largest research unit within the University, encompassing over half of all external research conducted at URI, and manage its strong academic and public service components.

In her role as Vice Provost, Dr. Leinen will guide growth and development of the University's broad-based marine programs, including those in departments and programs of the College of Resource Development, Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy, and Business, as well as the cross-disciplinary and economic development endeavors of the proposed Coastal Institute on Narragansett Bay and the Ocean Technology Center.

The appointment of Dr. Leinen represents a vital link in the development of cooperative interdisciplinary studies and programs critical to accomplishing the University's goals. We are proud to have Dr. Leinen as an integral member of our administration and look forward to her vast experience, creative capability, and active leadership in keeping the University at the forefront of emerging marine science.
