The URI/NOAA CMER Program was established in 1989 to foster enhanced interactions between all elements of NOAA and URI with emphasis on projects of mutual interest to the University and the Northeast Region of NOAA--National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The proximity of these institutions offers enhanced opportunities for: joint research involving faculty, students and NOAA personnel; training opportunities for both students and federal employees; and shared use of specialized facilities and equipment. The CMER Program combines university and agency expertise to address marine issues affecting the state, region, and nation.
