Video Clips

These video clips show the movement of passive tracers that track motion of individual water parcels within the bay.

Clip 1:  This scenario shows retention in Greenwich Bay in response to a northeastward wind.

Clip 2: This scenario shows the basic counterclockwise gyre flow in the east passage. There is a strong northward motion of tracers released into east passage channel bottom water. Blue color indicates deep water and red color indicates shallow water. Tracers move into Providence River, advect upwards (turn red), and move predominantly southward through west passage.

Clip 3: This scenario shows strong flushing of the Providence River in association with strong (100 cm/s) runoff.
