Office of Marine Programs

The Office of Marine Programs (OMP) is focused on improving science communication and increasing public understanding of science and the natural world. Through a range of initiatives, OMP efforts reach multiple audiences in Rhode Island, around the country, and throughout the world, including the scientific community and decision makers, educators and students, journalists and other media representatives, and the broader public. OMP’s Narragansett Bay Classroom hosts a variety of marine and environmental professional development opportunities, field trips, interpretive programs, special events, lectures, and tours for people of all ages, and the Rhode Island Teacher at Sea program offers educators from throughout Rhode Island shipboard training experiences.

OMP also organizes the Charles and Marie Fish Lecture.
