Research

My research interests focus on ecosystem dynamics in Narragansett Bay. I am using a combination of biomass size spectra and environmental factors to develop indicators of ecosystem status and to evaluate changes in ecosystem structure over time. Currently I am focusing on the fish community of the bay but I plan on expanding my research into other trophic levels such as phytoplankton in order to create an overall picture of the bay community that may be useful to managers as well as scientists. I have also been involved in a project with the URI Transportation Center assessing recreational and commercial boat traffic in lower Narragansett Bay and the potential conflicts between different users of the bay's waterways. I entered GSO as a PhD student in 2002, and hope to finish my dissertation in the fall of 2008. My advisor is Dr. Candace Oviatt.
