My current research deals with satellite observations, and more particularly the study of sea surface temperature (SST) fronts. I am using Pathfinder Advanced very high resolution radiometer (AVHRR) data, as well as Moderate Resolution Imaging Radiospectrometer (MODIS) Terra and Aqua datasets to look at fronts and study their properties and their temporal variability. My goal is to establish an updated global typology of fronts based on the latest satellite measurements available.

My master's research focused on the role of sea spray droplets during cyclones and other high wind speeds events. In particular, I was interested in the momentum exchange occurring between the ocean and the atmosphere right at the ocean's surface. We used a numerical method called Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to generate direct numerical simulations (DNS) of the sea surface, and look at the interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere when sea spray is present. We modeled this problem as a particle-laden turbulent channel flow and showed that a sea spray stress was produced in addition to the turbulent stress, which resulted in a redistribution of the stresses in the momentum balance. Vortices right at the channel bottom were suppressed due to the addition of particles representing the sea spray droplets in the flow.
