I am interested in the interactions between individual organisms and their fluid environment, as well as how the fluid environment shapes the interactions between organisms. My postdoctoral research will focus on the importance of plankton swimming behavior versus fluid motion in the context of nutrient uptake and predator-prey interactions. rudis@gso.uri.edu |

Elizabeth Harvey Ph. D. student I am investigating the role of behavior and within-species genetic variability in the formation of Heterosigma akashiwo harmful algal blooms. |
Hyewon KimMaster Student As the first
year of master's student, I have been
calibrating the effective, semi automated counting method (aka Coulter
counter) for quantifying the abundance, biomass, and growth rates of
mono specific lab cultures and field samples from Georges Bank in North
Atlantic (EN490 research cruise in April, 2011). |
Françoise Morison Ph. D
Student I plan to investigate if there are patterns in the structure and trophodynamics of planktonic food webs associated with their physical environment and what such patterns may imply for the oceanic carbon flux. |
Henry Wladkowski Master
Student I am working on the behavioral effects of localized predators on the diel vertical migrations of phytoplankton. |
