TO SAVE YOUR WORK AND CONTINUE AT A LATER TIME:

If you have partially completed this form and are not ready to submit it to the UNOLS schedulers and Funding Agencies you may save your work as a DRAFT Form by using the DRAFT Form Submission button. You will need to EDIT your Draft Shiptime Request Form and submit it as FINAL if you want your request to be sent to Schedulers, the UNOLS office and Funding Agencies and in order for it to be added to the database of Shiptime Requests. You will receive an email with your DRAFT Shiptime Request, but NO ONE ELSE WILL until you submit it as FINAL. Remember to write down your password.
Draft forms may be purged from the system after 30 days.

WHEN YOU ARE READY TO SEND THIS INFORMATION TO SCHEDULERS:

To submit this form into the system use the FINAL button (BELOW) to submit a completed version of your Shiptime Request form to UNOLS. This is the only way to have the Shiptime Request form sent to schedulers, Funding Agency Program managers and to have it displayed as part of the Shiptime Request.

After submission, a copy of this form will be sent to the UNOLS office and forwarded to the appropriate institution(s) operating the ship(s) and federal funding agency. This information will be part of a UNOLS database. If you are editing a DRAFT form it will be purged from the system.

CREATING A PDF FILE FOR FASTLANE:

You only need to fill out SECTION ONE for use with your Research Proposal or to make your initial requirement known to schedulers. In order to include a copy of section one with your research proposal you will need to upload the form to FASTLANE. There are a couple of ways to do this:
1. You could copy the contents of the email that you receive into a Word Processor or Text Editor and create a Text, Word Processor or PDF file as you would with other parts of your proposal.
2. You could find your request in the database by going to the 4. View current list of Final Shiptime Request Forms page, selecting Shiptime requests with your last name and clicking on "view". You will then have a text version of the form on your browser. At the end of that form will be an option to email a PDF or text version of the form to whatever email address you enter there.
FASTLANE now supports uploading in formats other than PDF such as Wordperfect, Word and others. To learn more go to:https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/advisory.htm#otherformats

You can then upload the PDF or other file to FASTLANE. The email version or text version of Section One of the Shiptime Request form will be accepted as a substitute for the NSF Form 831.

KEEP YOUR SHIPTIME REQUEST UP TO DATE AND ACCURATE:

Complete section two (below) to give schedulers a more complete picture of your needs. You can do this at any time but it is especially important when you have been notified that your project is funded or it seems that there is a reasonable chance of funding. It is also extremely useful to schedulers and Agency personnel if you can edit your form after your proposal has been submitted to enter the NSF or other agency proposal number in Section One of this form. Whenever your needs change in any significant way it is useful to update this form. Recall the form using your password, update section one and complete section two, then submit the form by hitting the FINAL submit button at the bottom of section two. Your completed form (sections one and two) will then be forwarded to UNOLS, appropriate funding agencies, and concerned ship operators. You will receive a copy as well.

UNOLS SHIP TIME REQUEST FORM - SECTION TWO

Complete this section when you need to provide more compete information

Be sure to update SECTION ONE if any of your needs have changed or you have new information

You will normally submit this portion of the UNOLS Ship Time Request Form when funding of your cruise is fairly certain. This form is an extension of section one. If there are changes needed to section one they can be made and will be included upon submission of this section. The purpose of this section is to permit the ship operator to understand better the science mission of the cruise and therefore provide the services needed for a successful cruise.

A message file will also be opened for each cruise. Anyone associated with the cruise can file messages here. The messages will be filed automatically by copying unols@gso.uri.edu on your messages and including in the subject lines the last 6 digits of the UNOLS Request ID number found on your comeback copy of the first submission above. Access to the file can be found through the Ship Time Request menu on the UNOLS Homepage.

When submitted, the entire UNOLS Ship Time Request Form (sections one and two) will automatically be forwarded to the PI, funding agency, ship(s) involved in the cruise and the UNOLS Office. The form will be accessible to the public via the Web through the UNOLS Homepage. It will be indexed by PI and, through a world chart, by geographical location of your planned cruise.

Please review the information submitted on section one of this form and update changes.
