Areas of Specialization

Research

Yang Shen's research interests include earthquake hazards and structure of the crust and upper mantle. His recent projects include (1) mantle discontinuities beneath Iceland, Hawaii, and southern Africa, (2) earthquake activities at mid-ocean ridges, (3) finite-frequency tomography (4) simulations of seismic wave propagation in 3D heterogeneous earth, (5) seismic calibration for nuclear explosion monitoring, and (6) meteorological tsunamis.

Teaching

Yang Shen co-teaches the graduate course Marine Geophysics (OCG552). He also teaches graduate courses on Inverse Methods and other special topics.
